CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

 KEY STAGE 3 - YEARS 7, 8 & 9

 In their first year in accordance with the National Curriculum, all students follow a common course consisting of:

Religious Education

Science

Mathematics

English

Welsh

KS3 SRG Baccalaureate & Skills

Geography

History

Spanish

Physical Education

Drama

Art

Music

Design Technology ie:

Textiles

Food

Resistant Materials

Information Technology (IT)

Personal Social Education (PSE)

All subjects are time-tabled to allow maximum flexibility of teaching arrangements.

A second modern foreign language, French, may be introduced as an option into the Curriculum in Year 9.

THE ORGANISATION OF KEY STAGE 3 CLASSES

Each year group has six forms and six teaching classes.

FORM GROUPS          

The mixed ability form groups are named using the initials of their Form Teacher. In addition each student is a member of a house. House names are Belmont (BM), Caldey (CD), Llantarnam (LT), Margam (MG) and Whitland (WL)

7S, 7T & 7R                 Higher ability classes                                     

7G, 7C & 7H                Mixed ability classes

  • 7S, 7T and 7R – classes of 30 students of both above average and of average ability for English, Spanish, Geography, History, Music, RE, IT, Art, Drama and Welsh.
  • 7S, 7T and 7R will be split into 4 DT groups for Art, Food, Music, RM, PE and Textiles.
  • 7G, 7C & 7H – mixed ability classes of 25 students for all subjects containing some students of average ability and some students of below average ability.

Year 8             

8S, 8T & 8R                 Higher ability classes             

8G, 8C & 8H                Mixed ability classes

                                                                                               

  • 8S, 8T and 8R will be made up of students who are consistently producing above average work and will be classes of 30 students for all English, Geography, IT, History, Numeracy, Spanish and Welsh.
  • 8S, 8T and 8R will be split into 4 DT groups for Art, Food, Music, RM, PE and Textiles.
  • 8S, 8T & 8R may be set for Maths.
  • 8G, 8C & 8H – mixed ability classes of 25 students for all subjects containing some students of average ability and some students of below average ability.
  • 8G, 8C & 8H will be set for Maths.

Year 9

9S, 9T & 9R                 Higher ability classes

  • 9S, 9T and 9R will be made up of students who are consistently producing above average work and will be classes of 30 students for English, Spanish, Geography, History, Music, RE, Music, Drama and Welsh.
  • 9S, 9T and 9R will be split into 4 DT groups for Art, Food, IT, RM, PE and Textiles.
  • 9S, 9T & 9R may be set for Science and Maths.
  • 9G, 9C and 9H will be mixed ability classes of 20/21 containing some students of average ability and some students of below average ability.
  • 9G, 9C & 9H may be set for Maths.

To sum up -  your child will write their class information in the diary at the beginning of term.
